"Yellow Monday", a day of action organized by a network of civil society organizations, is aimed at highlighting the demand for assigning 4% of the GDP towards education.

The call for 4% has grown from its starting point in the capital to a nationwide campaign. Pressure on the government to fulfill the law and grant 4% of the GDP (the country's GDP is estimated at US$50 billion) to education has led to a new protest method. In this new protest, demonstrators are no longer the traditional union members, leaders, politicians, workers, or people from poor neighborhoods. Today's protesters are professionals, religious leaders, the middle classes and even members of high society.

Without burning a single tire or knocking down a single tree, without throwing refuse in the streets, breaking windows or spiking tires, public empowerment and the demand for 4% towards education and backing "Yellow Monday" has grown to such overwhelming levels that at homes and in public places people are talking about what they are going to wear today. The issue dominated the weekend debates on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. And, on radio and television programs broadcast all over the country, a call went out for all family members to wear something yellow today. Moreover, between last Thursday and Friday, many parents of children in private schools received a note asking them to send their children to school today with a yellow item of clothing. The movement calling for 4% all started with a small group of citizens organized by Coalicion Educacion Digna, the Coalition for Decent Education.
