Police Chief Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez says that the lynching of a young man who was burned to death in Yaguate, San Cristobal should serve as a lesson for other young people. He did add however that it was regrettable that members of the public should have to take justice into their own hands.
"This case should come as a lesson for many young people, so that instead of committing crimes that harm society they should devote themselves to their studies and to working so that things like this do not happen again," said the chief of police during Sunday mass at Police HQ.
He said that the man who was lynched had been arrested for possessing an illegal firearm, sent to justice but later released. Identified only as Ruvelis, he is thought to have been involved in a kidnapping when the lynching took place. The Police are investigating the case.
