Tragedy in San Juan de la Maguana

Six people were killed and eleven injured in an accident between an SUV and a small bus on Sunday afternoon. The bus was going from San Juan de la Maguana to Santo Domingo and the SUV was travelling north to San Juan from Azua. As a result of the crash, one of the vehicles struck an electricity pole and caused a break in the 69,000-volt line, according to EdeSur. Hoy and El Nuevo Diario reported that the head-on collision occurred at around 1:45 in the afternoon yesterday. Police Lieutenant Andres Terrero said that investigations were under way to establish which of the two drivers was responsible for the accident. Brigades from the CDEEE were working on re-establishing the electricity supply in the area late into the afternoon.
