The Constanza Highway Trust, a group formed by Presidential decree 341-10 is preparing to install tollbooths in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works. The money collected will be used to maintain the new roadway, inaugurated just five months ago and already a target for vandalism. Along with the tollbooths, the Trust is seeking to equip military and police units with motorcycles and radio communication gear in order to patrol the 51 kilometers of new highway. According to Angel Vinicio Quezada, preparations are not yet complete, but the Trust is holding discussions with the concessionaires of the Samana Highway and with the Minister of Public Works, Victor Diaz Rua. El Caribe newspaper says that the highway cost US$112 million.
