A total of 2,071 people are reported to have died in the cholera epidemic in neighboring Haiti, according to the latest information. The only department (province) of the country not to have registered any fatalities is Nippes, in the southwest of Haiti. Listin Diario says that over 91,000 patients have been treated for the disease, 43,243 were hospitalized and 41,806 were treated and released. A 2.3% death rate has been registered according to local agencies. In the Dominican Republic, one of the latest cases was a driver who was in frequent contact with Haitians who cross the frontier on a regular basis.
