Although none of the factions has chosen to release any information, former President Hipolito Mejia and Luis Abinader are believed to be refining the points of an agreement to go to the PRD party convention together. The PRD's presidential nomination convention is scheduled for 6 March 2011, when the party will choose its presidential candidate for the 2012 elections. Diario Libre said that preparations begun by both PRD leaders suggest that this agreement will be signed during an event to be held at the Ambar Room of the Dominican Fiesta Hotel on Sunday morning. Yesterday afternoon reporters were able to confirm via telephone that the event was listed on the hotel's program.

According to statements by both nomination hopefuls, Abinader will support Mejia, who is believed to have promised to choose him as his running mate if he wins the party's nomination. A possible alliance between Mejia and Abinader will counter the agreements that were sealed between Miguel Vargas Maldonado and Eligio Jaquez, Anibal Garcia Duverge, Jesus Colon and Maximo Castillo Salas. Leading members of both factions, who chose to remain anonymous, said that negotiations would be concluded in the next few hours. When they were asked if they would go on and negotiate with the other hopeful, Guido Gomez Mazara, they replied: "In politics nothing can be discarded".
