Senate asks Leonel to rescind the 11% hike

The Senate has approved a proposed resolution asking President Leonel Fernandez to rescind the 11% increase in the electricity rates starting this month. The proposal passed after just one reading. The Senators are asking the President to get the Superintendent of Electricity to withdraw Resolution #265-10, which calls for an 11% rate increase across the board. Legislators, community leaders and politicians have all expressed rejection for this untimely increase in the electricity rates. A poll in El Nuevo Diario newspaper found that 1,500 of its readers considered the measure "untimely".
