Doctor is cholera victim #23

The public health authorities have announced that they have confirmed a new case of cholera, the twenty-third, involving a doctor who works at the public hospital in Banica on the Haitian border. The Minister of Public Health, Bautista Rojas Gomez, said that his personnel are stepping up their efforts to prevent the spread of the disease in the frontier provinces of Elias Pina, Independencia and Pedernales where there is a large Haitian population. According to Hoy, all of the cholera cases found in the Dominican Republic are stable, according to the authorities. Cases have been reported and confirmed in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Valverde, La Altagracia and San Juan de la Maguana.
