A man who travelled from the Dominican Republic to Miami became the third confirmed case of cholera reported in the United States. Apparently, this is a doctor who had been in Haiti treating cholera patients, and he began to feel uncomfortable on an American Airlines flight last Thanksgiving Day. In late November the Orange County health authorities (near Orlando) reported the second case, a woman who returned to the US from her home in Haiti. She had visited the Artibonite area where the outbreak started, reportedly at the campsite of the Nepalese soldiers who arrived in October to serve in the UN peacekeeping forces, according to Hoy newspaper. The health authorities in Florida have warned of the risk of a cholera outbreak due to the fact that close to a quarter of a million Haitians live in the area. In Haiti, the epidemic has taken more than 2000 lives and affected over 90,000 people.
