"Nou pa't janm kon pale anpil konsa". Oh - you don't understand?? Well perhaps that is because the billboard announcing the cell phone service is in Haitian Creole or Kreyol as it is called there. This is something new on the streets of Santo Domingo, and is a reflection of the presence of so many Haitians in the Dominican Republic (by the way, it says: "We have never talked so much"). Listin Diario reports that this is the first time that an advertising campaign has been directed to a different language group, and while in the United States it is not unusual to see signage in Spanish, this is the first time that signs in Haitian Creole have been displayed in the Dominican Republic. The signs can be seen along the 27 of February Avenue at the corner of Dr. Delgado and on Alma Mater at the corner of Bolivar.
