National Police chief Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez has designated a commission to investigate a claim of physical aggression against Sergeant Mildred Andrea Cepeda at the police station in the Ensanche Espaillat in Santiago. The commission is headed by Major General Henry Peralta, who will present a report on the case in the next few days. Colonel Manuel De La Cruz, who supposedly had asked Sergeant Andrea Cepeda to deliver a prisoner, which she refused to do, is being investigated in the case. According to some versions of the incident, the sergeant who is five months pregnant, asked the officer for an order from the District Attorney in order to hand over the prisoner, and this bothered the officer. In response to Andrea Cepeda's refusal to deliver the prisoner, the officer supposedly found several SWAT team agents, who allegedly grabbed the sergeant violently, breaking her clavicle and injuring two ribs. Last night Diario Libre was given to understand that Sergeant Cepeda had dropped all types of legal action. The coordinator of the Movement of Life without Violence (MOVIDA), Yolanda Santana, has asked the Justice Department to clear up the incident and to establish responsibilities, no matter who is implicated in the case. A source told Diario Libre that the prisoner claimed by the police colonel implicated in the case was released.
