The Transport Reorganization Office (OPRET) has announced the signing of the contracts for the Metro II line. One of the contracts goes to Alstom for the construction of the cars for the Metro system (US$104.6 million) for 15 units for the new line, and the other goes to the EuroDom consortium for the electromechanical work on the new subway system (US$166.2 million). According to Hoy, Opret head Diandino Pena told reporters that the 14 stations, all underground, would cost US$750 million, describing it as "an unprecedented achievement in the Caribbean region".

El Caribe reports that Opret has decided to reduce the length of the Metro II line. The newspaper says that due to a lack of resources the line will only run from the Luperon Avenue to the 17 Bridge. The new line is due to be finished by February 2012.
