A poll carried out by El Nuevo Diario newspaper gives Danilo Medina 25.72%, Miguel Vargas Maldonado 16.59%, Hipolito Mejia 16.28% and Leonel Fernandez 16.18% as the voting preferences of people interviewed. The poll was conducted on the newspaper's webpage and 67,057 readers responded. Besides the four major, and well-known figures, the participants also identified Guillermo Moreno, Eduardo Estrella, Carlos Morales Troncoso and Pelegrin Castillo as possible candidates although none of these options scored higher than Morales Troncoso with 15.4%. The IT team at El Nuevo Diario also reported that some people tried to alter the results of the on-line poll.
