203 organizations have joined together to support the call for the assignment of 4% of GDP to education, approximately double what the government is allocating at present. According to El Nuevo Diario, the "Coalicion Education Digna" is calling for the rejection of the Senate approval of the 2011 Budget and the Addendum, which failed to comply with Education Law 66-97 that stipulates the 4% of the budget.
At a press conference held at the Bono Center, the organizers of Yellow Monday issued a call for campaign supporters to meet outside the National Congress building at 2pm today dressed in yellow. The coalition hopes that the budget will be rejected by the Chamber of Deputies, where the ruling party does not enjoy the necessary two-thirds majority. If this were to happen and the bill were to be sent back to the joint commission for revision, the coalition has the hope that it will be modified and more funding set aside for education.
