The Herrera Industries Association has warned Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa that the private sector's support for the agreement with the International Monetary Fund was not given so that laws could be violated or for complicity with government overspending. AEIH president Wadi Cano said that the business sector had made the agreement on the understanding that it would bring fiscal discipline to the government, which he says has not occurred in the current administration. He says the populist scheme for managing public funds continues to prevail.

"If there is anything we complain about, it is the IMF's permissiveness in its handling of the agreement, basically in what concerns public spending and the allotments of funds outside of the agreed parameters, in an exercise that is totally contrary to the discipline that would have been expected for public finances," states Cano.

The AEIH backed the position of the Dominican Republic Association of Industries that criticized the addition of an addendum to the budget intended to legalize ITBIS collection in Customs when this had been exempt by law from companies that were certified under the Pro Industry Law.
