The Ministry of Public Health has prohibited fishing and bathing in the Artibonite River along the Haitian frontier due to the risk of contagion from the bacteria that causes cholera. The minister called on parents to keep their children out of the river.

The municipal authorities met with the National Cholera Commission and decided to carry out another national outreach program today in order to strengthen the prevention programs and the proper handling of foods during the holiday season. Hoy newspaper reports that after the meeting, Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that so far 32 cases of cholera had been confirmed in the country, none of the patients were still hospitalized and that 294 cases have been investigated. The minister said that ministry personnel have gone around the areas where cholera has appeared to advise local people on the precautions to take in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
