Traders in Santiago's historical center are calling for the return of the parking meters. According to El Caribe, the local municipal authorities and the traders are looking for ways to get the meter program back on track due to the chaos caused by the lack of parking. On Monday some 200 organizations from all walks of life published a document calling for the return of the parking meters that established some sort of order in the downtown area. The system fell into disuse after the Supreme Court issued a verdict saying that the parking concessionaire was not legally entitled to collect fines from people who overstayed their parking meter times.
