Purchasing power among minimum wage earners in the Dominican Republic is one of the lowest in Latin America, according to findings published in the International Labor Organization Global Wage Report 2010-11. The report focuses on wage developments and reviews the global and regional trends during the years of the economic and financial crisis of 2008 and 2009.

In the region, the DR's purchasing power is only comparable to that of Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Mexico and Nicaragua. Purchasing power in Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay and Venezuela is double that of the DR, as reported in Hoy.
