Hoy reports that the president of the Dominican Academy of Language Bruno Rosario Candelier says that the academy had informed legislators that there were 200 spelling and grammatical errors in the 2010 Constitution. He complained that despite the warning, the legislators did not make the corrections and passed the bill as is. Rosario Candelier complained that language instruction in the country has failed due to the sub-standard quality of teacher training.

He says that this is combined with the almost total absence of reading habits, even among teachers. Rosario complained that the proposed new integrated textbooks marginalize the teaching of language skills even further. The Ministry of Education wants to print RD$700 million worth of new textbooks incorporating language skill instruction into all subjects, and eliminating Spanish as a separate subject.
