The Police have reported the death of four men, one of them identified as Miguel Angel Martinez (Vitifey), reportedly a member of a dangerous gang of contract killers accused of several raids. The assailants would dress in military uniforms. In the clash with the police a Dutch national, 63-year old Walter De Laats whose house the assailants attempted to rob in Ensanche Altagracia, Cotui was also murdered by the assailants. The three suspected criminals showed up at De Laats house pretending to be interested in buying household items he had for sale.
The criminals injured Colonel Guillermo Baez Ubiera, a member of the Police patrol that intervened. The Police said the gang operated from Los Pinos in Guachupita, a Santo Domingo slum neighborhood.
The Police said they had been on the trail of Vitifey, who is accused of several robberies in Santo Domingo, including a raid on the Barra Payan cafeteria, as reported in Listin Diario.
