The Ornithological Society of Hispaniola (SOH), in alliance with the Tourism Cluster of Santo Domingo, The Nature Conservancy and USAID-DSTA has organized a city bird count for Saturday, 18 and Sunday 19 December. This is an activity for all the family. Every participant will be able to appreciate the splendor of the birds and become aware of the importance of their conservation.
The task begins on Saturday, 18 December at 4:30pm with a walk through the gardens of the Hotel Embajador. Specialists will teach participants how to distinguish each species by characteristics. This will enable the novice birdwatchers to avoid confusing a parakeet with a parrot. Afterwards there will be a talk on Hispaniola birds to enhance everyone's knowledge.
On Sunday, there will be a 7am walk at the National Botanical Gardens, along the La Canada bird observatory trail. Each group will be made up of 10 people, accompanied by a guide.
