Over the weekend, local press carried reports on leaked US Embassy reports to the US government of complaints by foreign businessmen that they were being extorted by Dominican government officers. The reports were released in Spanish in El Pais of Spain, following their publication in WikiLeaks. These are the first two of reportedly 1,675 classified documents that have been leaked containing information on the DR filed by the US Embassy. The two leaked reports focus on former minister of Tourism Felix Jimenez (Felucho) and former director of the Airport Department Andres Van Der Horst and complain of bribe solicitations. President Leonel Fernandez while on his rounds of giving away Christmas boxes in Mao, Santiago, San Francisco de Macoris and La Vega over the weekend refused to refer to the Cablegate issue. When a reporter began to ask a question regarding "Cablegate", he told her "Thank you", and got into his vehicle.

Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso revealed that Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs , Arturo Valenzuela made an official apology for the leak.
