New cases of cholera were reported in provinces at the border with Haiti -- San Juan de la Maguana, Elias Pina and Independencia provinces, all lining the Haitian border. El Caribe reports on the case of a pregnant woman from Haiti who arrived to Montecristi seeking medical attention, and is now recovering. Local health authorities insist that the illness is under control, given "the successful handling by the hospital services, and the follow up work carried out by the epidemiological team". The Panamerican Health Organization concurs with the government that the outbreak in the DR has been kept abnormally low. There have been 59 cases reported so far and no deaths.

To create more awareness among the population, and rev up preventive measures, the Ministry of Public Health announced an operation to distribute 5 million units of educational material in English, Spanish and Creole. The program includes home visits all over the country, and more than 100,000 volunteers are expected to help in the operation.
