Lawyer Leila Mejia of the Foundation for Committeed National Youth (JUNCO, Inc) is leading a campaign to foster support for street dogs. Mejia explains that for six years she has lobbied for an animal protection bill in Congress but this has met strong rejection from those who support cockfighting.
Now, deputy Elpidio Baez has a bill that will go to public hearing on 20 January 2011 and she wants to rev up national support for the effort.
Leading show business and notable public figures are taking a stand and participating in the campaign. These include Sergio Carlo, Eddy Herera, Tita Hasbun, Pavel Nunez, Lissette Selmann, Nikauly de la Mota, Frank Reyes, Roberto Cavada, Linda Garcia, Anabell Alberto, Nashla Bogaert, Carmen Manrique, among others.
