A tire blow out led Latin American Idol Martha Heredia to lose control of her Rav4 on Duarte Highway and not be able to avoid killing 16-year old Haitian who was walking on the side of the highway. The accident occurred on Saturday early morning near Villa Altagracia, on the Daurte Highway when driving from Santiago to Santo Domingo. As reported in Hoy, Heredia said the emotional shock delayed her response and becoming available to explain to the press what had happened.
"My solidarity with the family of the late Watson Vendredi," she noted in a written response. Vendredi was the eldest son of a family of six brothers of Haitian migrants who make a living selling arts and crafts. "I am aware this has been an unrepairable loss and I will be with them as soon as I recovery from my injuries," she said. She accepted responsibility for the death. The family has requested material compensation for hteir loss.
