In Diario Libre newspaper's page two editorial, executive editor Adriano Miguel Tejada reports on democracy in the DR. He describes the way that Dominicans are under the illusion that we live in a democracy because we celebrate elections every once in a while and people can speak out through the media.
"That concept of minimalist democracy was discredited a long time ago because behind the facade of the elections there are corrupting handouts buying consciences. And what good does the media carrying the protests of the people do if the authorities do not listen, or react to them?" he asks.
