The authorities found a third body from the Tuesday shipwreck off the northeastern coast near San Juan River. 10 men and 6 women attempted an illegal boat failed crossing to Puerto Rico on that day, not heeding weather department calls of high surf and dangerous conditions at sea. As reported in the press, the travelers paid RD$30,000, or approximately US$810 for the crossing. (approximately 810). The travelers were from the provinces of Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Puerto Plata, La Vega and Espaillat. Nine are still missing. Three were able to make it back to Dominican land. According to the survivors, the ship split in two when crashing into a reef.
