On 24 December, the press reported on the confiscating of another iPhone to prison inmate Sobeida Felix Morel. A lawyer was arrested for attempting to smuggle another iPhone to Sobeida Felix Morel. This follows a confiscation reported on 15 December of two Blackberries and an iPhone. Felix Morel is in jail as an accomplice to Puerto Rican drug capo Jose Figueroa Agosto, under arrest in Puerto Rico.
San Cristobal Court of Appeals prosecutor, Jesus Fernandez Velez said lawyer Sarah Lina Machado Balbuena was arrested when trying to introduce another iPhone to her client. Sarah Lina Machado had been sent by Sobeida Felix's lawyer Felix Portes Nunez to reportedly discuss matters relative to visas for her children, as reported in Hoy. During the visit, the lawyer passed the iPhone to the inmate, but this was found in a body search. Supposedly, the lawyer offered RD$100,000 or any desired amount to the jail agent who discovered the iPhone to not report the cell phone. After the iPhone was found, the lawyer was checked and a Blackberry and 3 chips were found on her person.
Lawyer Sara Lina Machado was released on bail of RD$100,000.
