A huge winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on New York's airports and the whole US Northeast Coast, has forced the cancellation of literally hundreds of flights, many of which affected the DR in a direct manner as people hurried back to jobs after the Christmas holidays or tried to get away from the cold to celebrate the New Year in a tropical setting.

JFK airport in New York was shut down according to the Hoy newspaper, and affected many flights into local airport with the cancellation of several flights until Tuesday. Flights from the DR to Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark's Freedom were all cancelled. Local airline offices reported that some 1,100 persons were on waiting lists for flights out. Most airlines said that they would reprogram flights until 5 January 2011 without costs. In order to understand how dramatic things are in New York City, here are pictures taken last night:
