The Christmas tree at the Presidential Palace was removed for the mourning ceremony honoring former President Salvador Jorge Blanco who died at dawn of Sunday, 26 December. At noon today, the late president received presidential honors in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace attended by President Leonel Fernandez, Vice President Rafael Alburquerque, Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso and Apostolic Nuncio Jozef Wesolowsk.
Ministers and personalities paid their respect at the Presidential Palace where they were received by the President, First Lady Margarita Cedeno, the Vice President and his wife Martha Montes de Oca, acting president of the PRD Andres Bautista, and the children of Jorge Blanco, Lidia Leticia, Orlando Jorge Mera and his wife Patricia de Jorge.
At 2pm his remains would be taken to the Cristo Redentor Cemetery for burial. His son Orlando Jorge Mera and president of the PRD Miguel Vargas were scheduled to speak during the burial.
