Store spokesmen said that Christmas shopping was better than expected this year, and better than last year. As reported in Hoy, Pedro Perez Gonzalez said that the increase in sales had lots to do with more attractive offers this year, as many major players created strong competition that kept prices attractive for consumers. He also attributed the increase in sales to the stability of the dollar, the low interest rates.
Sales were up as of 17 December when consumers used their regular December paycheck and Christmas wage to go Christmas shopping.
