Environmentalist Luis Carvajal said that the cholera threat to the DR is an opportunity for the country to clean up the rivers in a permanent manner and install sanitary systems for the communities. He urged the end to the discharging of sewage directly into the rivers, especially in urban areas where there are many gullies.
He also alerted to the correct use of chlorine. He said that chlorine can be toxic if misused. He said that chlorine should not be used with metal containers, as reported in Hoy.
