Preliminary data from the Central Bank sets the per capita income in the Dominican Republic at US$5,282.2, or 9.7% more than in 2009 when it closed at US$4,810. This is double the income per capita in 2004, when it was US$2,548. Critics say the trickle-down effect of the wealth has been reduced. While wealth increases overall in the Dominican, the gap between the rich and the poor has done also widened. Exclusion is more marked between the opulence exhibited by many government officials and the poor and middle classes.
