Engineer Hiddekel Morrison, technology writer in Diario Libre, reports that an efficient 911 line system would cost well less than US$1 million. Yesterday Diario Libre reported that the Ministry of Interior & Police would be taking on a US$29.5 million loan to equip an efficient 911 service. Morrison questions the budget and says that an efficient call system would cost nowhere near the million dollars, even using interactive voice technology (IVR). He says the service could be installed with US$200,000. "It is unfortunate and sad to see how our authorities improvise dilapidating government resources, forgetting the order of priority and creating debt for this country on luxuries that are not at our level," he writes.
