The Department of Prisons has fired the director of the Najayo Jail, Leoncio Made after he allowed prisoners to celebrate the New Year holiday. Online news portal ensegundos.net showed photos of Juan Jose Fernandez Ibarra, Ivanovich Smester Ginebra and Sammy Dauhajre celebrating in their cell in Najayo with New Year party hats and alcoholic drinks. Both are in custody for their involvement in asset launderers in the case of Puerto Rican drug capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto. The chief of the Prisons Department, Retired Major General Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez was replaced by lawyer Jose Feliz Batista, after a report on the incident was received from prisons security chief, Retired General Tomas Holguin, as reported in El Dia. According to news reports, expensive whisky had been made available in the jail for the festivities.
