The Weather Department is forecasting "chilly" temperatures for the DR through February. It explains that a combination of the La Nina and El Nino will bring a combination of low temperatures, contrasting drought during wintertime, to be followed by heavy rainfalls in the summer and fall. Onamet spokesman Miguel Campusano said that the low temperatures recorded this year had not been seen in the Caribbean since the 1980s. He said there have been lows of 1-4 degrees in Constanza (Valle Nuevo).
Temperatures for Santo Domingo for 6 January are 19/27C and for Santiago 14/27C.
