In southwest Florida. I can fly out of TPA, MIA, or FLL. OF Course, flying from the Fort Myers airport is prohibitively expensive. Any ideas for getting to Sosua or Santiago cheapest? All these New Yorkers got the hookup, but what about us?

The absolute cheapest is Spirit out of FLL to SDQ then take a bus north. Otherwise your only other option is American Airlines. There is a charter that flies out of Orlando but only once or twice a week.

AA's weekly e-mail specials often include fares to DR under 200 from MIA

If I go to Santo Domingo, won't the cab fare to the bus station kill the price difference, as opposed to flying AA to POP or STI?

I agree, there are often AA NetSavers from Miami for Puerto Plata and Santiago to be found at low prices.

Spirit sells SDQ fares for $48 once way occasionally, that's $96+tax. The absolute lowest on AA (I get the emails too) I ever saw was $139+tax from Miami. They are usually $189+tax. Yes you go to SDQ but if adventurous it could be a better deal.

$189 plus tax to POP. Fucking bargain! The best AA fare saver offer i have seen from Boston is $279 plus tax to SDQ. I have yet to see 1 to POP or STI. But then again there is no direct flights out of here to the DR.

$7 for the bus - Taxi was $110 for me. Special deal hooked up through John at the Palace but I have the taxi guy's number.

Say $40 each way. Taxi to Caribe Tours, bus ticket and taxi to hotel. About a 5 hour bus ride each way. Saves me between $240 to $290. I guess if the timing was right it could be worth it.
Anyone ever see any fare savers to Santiago from Boston. Atleast i have a local taxi there and a place to crash if i need one. Even though staying at a cabana is cheaper than with the locals. They usually nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar me to death. 1.5 hour bus ride or a DR1200 taxi ride in a death trap down a mountain road. Santiago it is.
Please PM me if anyone sees fare savers out of Bos To STI. Need to get to N. Coast next month but all fares are way over 6 bills. Peso down, air fare up. What's next? A fucking puta union.

Is it really just American out of South Florida to POP? Jeez...we're so close and only one airline... And just Spirit and American to Santa Domingo...

Yes that's it except for a charter out of Orlando but the travel days suck 3, 4, or 7 day trips only, flies Fri & Mon iirc.

Actually once I found a JetBlue fare cheaper from Tampa to STI, the only problem was the connection was in NYC!

If you can get 3 guys to go to Santo Domingo, the $110 cab fare isn't that bad. But if I was with 2 others, I would stay the night in SD and get a local taxi to take me. I bet they would be about $80 or so.

Vacation Express has the same travel days. But when I called them, they told me that you could merge trips if seats are available (they usually are). So you can merge a 3 day and a 7 day (or a 4 and a 7 day) if you can find a seat...for the same price. That's why I consider them. The airline you're talking about may be the same way.

It would be one hell of a tail/head wind if you did!
