The Toros del Este from La Romana are just a step away from taking part in the Final Series of the 2010-2011 Dominican Winter League Championship. Last night they defeated last year's champions the Leones del Escogido by a score of 2-1, in a game where first baseman Kevin Barker, picked up from the now-discarded Aguilas Cibaenas, gave the La Romana team the two runs it needed to defeat the Leones. The win gives the Toros at least a tie for second place in the standings.
In San Pedro de Macoris, the home team Estrellas Orientales defeated the resurgent Gigantes del Cibao to take over the second spot in the standings of the round-robin section of the championship. Good pitching from Ramon Ortiz and hitting from Alex Valdez gave the Estrellas their 6-4 win.
