President Leonel Fernandez has issued Decree 1-11 that extends the legislature of both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate through 17 February. This will give time to review the Constitutional Court and Higher Electoral Court bills.
Today, at the Funglode auditorium debates will continue on the proposed new government entities. The debates are open to the general public but the seated auditorium space is limited. TV screens are posted outside.
The legislature had expired on Wednesday. With the extension, legislators have until 26 February to pass the bills.
The 2010 Constitution establishes a legislative periods of 150 days, up from 90 days in the 2002 Constitution.
