The 2010 winning photographs of the World Press Photo Contest are on display at the first and second floor halls of the Museo de las Casas Reales, on Calle Las Damas in Santo Domingo's Colonial City through 6 February. The photographs feature scenes of conflicting situations and convey a powerful sense of atmosphere.
62 photographers from 22 nations received prizes. The jurors chose the winners from 101,960 images submitted by 5,847 photographers from 128 different nationalities. Most of the entries came from China with 586 submissions.
The exhibition is on a world tour of 100 countries. In the Dominican Republic the exhibition is being sponsored by the Embassy of the Netherlands. Netherlands Ambassador Rita Dulci Rahman presented the photographs on the inaugural evening, Thursday, 13 January.
