The Ministry of Industry & Commerce authorized increases ranging from RD$1.28 to RD$4 in fuel last Friday. The new prices per gallon are: premium gasoline RD$180.10, regular gasoline RD$170.30, premium diesel RD$159.60, regular diesel RD$154, avtur RD$127.27, kerosene RD$145.10, fuel oil RD$109.29, propane RD$92.52, natural gas RD$18.94/cubic meter.

Diario Libre reports that this is the third price hike in three weeks, for a total of premium gas RD$9.30, regular RD$9.80, premium diesel RD$7.70, regular diesel RD$10.10 and in propane RD$4.73.

The prices are almost at the levels when a barrel of petroleum was at US$147 on the world markets (July 2008). The price per barrel of petroleum now is considerably lower, US$91.86, though. For the week of 28 June to 4 July 2008 premium gasoline cost RD$207.90, regular RD$197.80, regular diesel RD$181.80 and premium diesel RD$185.13.

The record price of propane was reached in 13-19 September 2008, when a gallon cost RD$73.92, or RD$95.68 without the subsidy.
