Yet another attempt at temperance is in the works. A legislative proposal aimed at halting liquor and beer sales at minimarkets known as "colmados" and "colmadones" and liquor stores at 10pm is now on the desk of the Minister of the Interior and Police, according to deputy minister Ana Silvia Moronta. Moronta said that according to a Gallup poll, 90% of the population supported the proposal and that "75% of the population is in favor of prohibiting the sale of open alcoholic beverages in colmados, colmadones, gas stations and liquor stores".
The proposal will be sent to the President so that he can send it to Congress. Commenting on the legislative proposal, Moronta said that the sale of alcoholic beverages on sidewalks and other public areas would be limited to those authorized by the Ministry of the Interior and Police.
