The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) has announced a short-course scholarship program for software development aimed at assisting graduates in Computer Science and Systems Engineering. According to the Minister, Ligia Amada Melo, the program is coordinated by the Center for Exports and Investments of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), the Santo Domingo Cyber Park Foundation, the Software Cluster and several universities. In its first stage the program will cost RD$13 million.
Listin Diario says that the program will strengthen local industry, create better jobs and increase the export of services. It will also serve to attract investments in software from overseas, since the availability of human capital is one of the main concerns of investors in the sector. Full details can be obtained at the MESCYT.
