The Ministry of Public Health plans to spend RD$1.2 billion on the fight against cholera. The latest figures released by the Ministry show that 189 people in the Dominican Republic have been affected, but, so far, there have been no fatalities. More than 3,800 deaths have been attributed to the disease in Haiti since it appeared last October.
El Nuevo Diario says that the Dominican Ministry of Health will spend a further RD$1.7 billion in other areas and in support of the public hospitals. Special emphasis will be made on the prevention of diseases such as malaria, dengue and leptospirosis. The Ministry reports that all those affected by cholera in the Dominican Republic are in good health, with the exception of one 25-year old man who died of a heart complication.
