As of March, subscribers who use the email addresses ending in codetel.net.do will need to switch this to claro.net.do. The Mexican company known here are Claro Codetel will now be branded solely with the Claro brand, leaving behind the Codetel brand that had been reinstated after America Movil purchased Verizon's operations in the DR. When Verizon purchased Codetel it switched the brand name to Verizon. As reported by Hiddekel Morrison, who writes on ICT for Diario Libre, the Claro brand will be used to unify all their operations in Latin America. The slogan will be "The network where all is possible."
The codetel.net.do (http://codetel.net.do) emails will continue for some time, but users will be informed of the need to change.
On making the announcement, Codetel spokesman Oscar Pena told journalists that the company controls 60% of the cell phone market and is the leader in Internet connections and number two in paid TV. The company also announced that it is investing RD$12 billion to improve their Internet coverage.
