President Leonel Fernandez departed for Madrid on Monday evening, 24 January, a first stop in a trip that will take him to Switzerland and India.

Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said that President Fernandez' trip to Switzerland and India will be one of the most important that he has ever made. He said that the President would address the membership of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Commerce and Development (UNCTAD) on key development issues in Room XVIII of the Palais des Nations in Geneva on 26 January at 10am.

Dominican Luis Manuel Piantini Munnigh is president of UNCTAD's Trade and Development Board.

President Fernandez will also visit the offices of the World Trade Organization and will travel to Zurich. He is also scheduled to take part in the World Economic Forum, Davos Summit in Davos. Morales Troncoso said the event is one of the most significant in the world, to which five Latin American presidents have been invited. He said that the world's 100 top business executives are attending this event. "This is the elite event of the world business community", stated the minister.
