The Ministry of Public Works has announced the closure of the highway between Jarabacoa and Constanza, currently under reconstruction, from today until 30 April, from early morning until 7pm. The temporary road closure stretches from Paso Bajito to the Salto de Jimenoa, and affects the communities of El Rio, La Pocilga, La Pita, Redondo and Maiz Pedro. The road has been closed due to the danger of movement along the road in its present condition. El Nuevo Diario reports that there will be a lot of heavy equipment on the road, making transit even more difficult.
The new 27-kilometer stretch will have a new surface and new drainage and take eleven months to finish. The contract was awarded to Brazilian company Odebrecht.
