The Toros del Este completed a five-game sweep of the weakened Estrellas Orientales to crown themselves champions of the Dominican Winter Baseball League 2010-2011. They became the eighth team to sweep the final series as they defeated the Estrellas 4-2, and won their second championship in the Winter League. Their first came 16 years ago (1994-95).
The Toros got good pitching from Jose Sanchez, Rafael Diaz, Jairo Asencio and Julio Manon. The game itself was a pitching duel until the seventh inning when the Toros erupted for four runs. The Estrellas answered with two runs in the eighth but were not able to overcome the Toros lead. At the end of the game, the fans, no known to be the most supporting and enthusiastic in the country, rushed onto the field, forcing the players and coaches to seek refuge in the dugout. Team president Frank Micheli came out to receive the champion's trophy from Leonardo Matos Berrido.
