Despite moving the holiday to Monday, 24 January, today is Duarte's real birthday. Government, academic, military, political and municipal institutions will commemorate the date in various ways. It is the 198th anniversary of the birth of the Founding Father of the Dominican Republic, Juan Pablo Duarte, who was born on 26 January 1813. The day will start off at 8am with a Mass at the Paz y Bien Church in the Alma Rosa sector, organized by the municipality of Santo Domingo East.
Later, at 9am, Monsignor Amancio Escapa will celebrate a similar ceremony at the Santa Barbara Church in the Colonial City, organized by the Deputy Minister for Culture at the Ministry of Education. Once ended, the Eucharistic ceremony, authorities and students carrying flags will march from the Duarte House Museum to the Altar of the Fatherland. Half an hour later, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) will lay a floral wreath at the bust of Duarte in the esplanade at the Alma Mater on the main campus. In the meantime, at 10am, the Ministry of the Armed Forces, in coordination with the Permanent Commission for Patriotic Anniversaries, will hold a military parade that will leave from the central park in the city of San Francisco de Macoris.
