President Leonel Fernandez arrived in Geneva to begin his agenda with a meeting with officials from the University of Geneva. The Dominican head of state and his entourage were received by the chief of protocol of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, Jean-Luc Chopard, the Dominican ambassador in Bern, Teresa Torres, the Dominican ambassador at the World Trade Organization, Luis Manuel Piantini, and the Dominican ambassador at the United Nations Mission in Geneva, Homero Lajara.

The Presidency reports that Fernandez discussed his willingness to sign an agreement with the university to form a specialized corps that could intervene in efforts to reduce the effects that natural disasters might cause in the Dominican Republic and the rest of the Caribbean. The University of Geneva conducts international studies on the effects of tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes. "They try to establish common patterns, and learn lessons in each case which might be helpful for prevention and recovery", said the President. www.presidencia.gob.do/app/article.aspx?id=13311 (http://www.presidencia.gob.do/app/article.aspx?id=13311)
